Playing On My Pod #10 - The Soundtrack/Score Edition

I LOVE browsing through motion picture soundtracks. I LOVE choreographing to them and I'd LOVE to throw an event where all my favorite tracks set the mood. It would have to be some kind of soirĂ©e at dusk in a forest with twinkle lights and everyone wearing bohemian lace and sitting on wooden pews. Vines growing as the party was happening, so much so they were actually growing up people's legs, and they loved it. I digress.

Here are my top 5 picks for songs. Maybe once you hear them you'll understand that ridiculous tirade about magical vibes and twinkle lights a little better.

1. Duchess of Windsor, by Abel Korzeniowski from the motion picture W.E.
2. Once Upon A Dream, by Lana Del Rey from the motion picture Malificent
3. Capture The Flag (feat. Ellie Goulding), by Junkie XL from the motion picture Divergent
4. Juliet's Dream, by Abel Korzeniowski from the motion picture Romeo & Juliet
5. Best Shot, by Birdy & Jaymes Young from the motion picture The Fault In Our Stars.

Let me know what you think. And please consider me as your playlist maker for your next party in a forest.

Aloha, Rebecca

Here's what Halloween looked like for Ivy:

And like that, it was over.
On to November.

This Saturday is when I like to think Christmas shopping starts, as I'll be participating in my sister-in-law's Trunk Show with a bunch of talented local artists. This is Ivy & Co.'s second year participating and I'm really excited about it!

If you need me, I'll be sewing all week.
Happy Holidays!

Playing On My Pod - new week. new songs.

update your playlist with these new songs

As a dance teacher, I have to update my playlists constantly. 99% of my playlists are for work.
The other 1% (which is really 1 playlist... yes, I probably have 100 playlists on my iPod) is the only one I listen to for pleasure. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that my song suggestions are a mix between what I use in my classes, and what I listen to for myself. Here's this week's pics:

1. Explode My Soul, by Melissa Helser & Jonathan David Helser
2. Love Runs Out, by OneRepublic
3. Heartbeat, by Beckah Shae
4. I Will Never Let You Down, by Rita Ora
5. Only You, by CeeLo Green

Playing On My Pod

I told you before in my Gungor post (click here), as a dance teacher & choreographer, I spend HOURS on Spotify and iTunes scoping out music for work. My iPod is used on a daily basis, solely for work purposes. So if I'm going to listen to it for hours on end, it better have some good stuff on it! So why not share the wealth with you all? Here's my top song pics people. Enjoy!

Holding On For Life, by Broken Bells
Give Me Love, by Ed Sheeran
A Life That's Good, by Lennon & Maisy (The Music of Nashville, Original Soundtrack)

Gungor Songs

As a dance teacher & choreographer, I spend HOURS on Spotify and iTunes scoping out music for work. Every semester I need new music. And I have quite the criteria:

1. It's gotta be hip, but not "too-Top-40-overplayed" hip.
2. It's gotta have appropriate lyrics/content. I teach students age 3 up to age... well, older than me... and I play these songs at home and in the car to prep, so Ivy is hearing them all the time. Not only do I refrain from swearing, but what they're talking about is super important to me too. Sorry K$sha, you just don't make the cut, unless I feel like cutting out every other word (which I'll admit, I've done).
3. I have to like it! Nothing is worse than going to work every day listening to music you hate. Why would anyone do that?

Yesterday in Advanced Contemporary/Choreography class, my students informed me that I have the best music. (Ugh, thank goodness I got approval from those teenagers!) They were all, "Can you just send us your playlist?" So, students, here it is. Here's what we're dancing to, and what songs I absolutely love this month:

Bonfire Heart - James Blunt
Love Alone Is Worth The Fight - Switchfoot
Gale Song - The Lumineers
Five Hundred Miles - Justin Timberlake, Carey Mulligan & Stark Sands
The Spectacular Now soundtrack
Blue - Beyonce
Who We Are - Imagine Dragons
We Own It - Fast & Furious 6 (I cut it all up, though)
Yesternite - Gungor
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Soundtrack
Angkor - D-Operation Drop
Dust to Dust - The Civil Wars

Enjoy!

On another note, I just really like the band Gungor. Here's my playlist of songs I like from them:

Beautiful Things
Yesternite
When Death Dies
The Fall
This Is Not The End

I'm sure there are more. Not only do they have a great sound, but they also have such poetic, impacting lyrics:

gungor when death dies all things live

gungor lyrics beautiful things

Feel free to pin these images, share them, whatevs. And go check out some of those songs. You won't be sorry!

Aloha, Rebecca
