BLACK VALENTINE FEATURES

I know it's Valentine's Day, so I'm featuring one V-Day project, but other than that, I've got a thing for dining tables and the color black right now. If you read my post, "Recent Changes,"you know that our dining table just recently went from wood-to-black-to-antiquedwood in a matter of a week. (My husband's doing, not mine-- we love it in it's final state). Ironically, Lauren of "At Home Sweet Home" linked up a black dining table and a black dresser. I love them both!

And of course, to go with the BLACK VALENTINE theme, "4 You With Love" linked up these Solid Lotion Bars, and photographed them on a black background, so I think they're perfect! I also love Coconut Oil and Beeswax, which she used in these. Have you ever used a solid lotion bar? I got one a couple summers ago from LUSH and I liked it, but the scent was a little strong. A DIY version might be my best bet!

ANNOUNCEMENT
I'm finding it difficult to maintain the Aloha Friday party, so I've decided to leave it up for two weeks at a time. I don't want to do away with it all together, because I love seeing the projects and spreading the features to my readers to give everyone more exposure, but I just can't commit to doing it every week. You can link up as much as you want in that two week period, which will give me plenty to choose from every other week. Aloha!

ALOHA Friday Link Party #19

My DIY projects have been few and far between, since about Thanksgiving. Actually, that's not totally true. I've been DIY-ing, but it's been mainly for work and out of necessity, not for the blog. I've made:
-"housewife" costumes for work, including Peter Pan collars and aprons
-lost all my "to-go" cups, so I made one out of a mason jar
-co-created a vignette for ampersand's debut dance concert
-made a magic wand and tiara for Ivy to take as a gift to a birthday party
-picked up some amazing "Hawaii Business" magazines from the 70's, featuring some awesome ads like the Hawaiian Airlines ad below. They were free at the library!

ALOHA Friday Link Party #15 and a Sneak Peek at our Christmas Photo Shoot

We took photos for our Christmas Cards this week with my very good friend, Ajja.
I've only seen this one so far, because she posted it on Facebook.

Ajja's photography is AMAZING. I like to describe her photography style as capturing life in motion. It's honest. It's what really happens. Ivy and I were actually about to hug right here.
Ironically, her business motto is:

Love Gets Sweeter Every Day

There was a moment in the shoot when Ivy fell in the shallow river we were posing in. My husband was a little upset, I was trying to convince Ivy that it was ok, and Ivy was almost in tears over her wet dress. Needless to say, Ajja showed me a picture she took of us through the trees at that moment, and said it was her favorite shot so far. We didn't look ticked off (which we all were), we looked as if we were caring for one another, trying to remedy a situation, and doing it together. She captures life's moments, not life's poses. 

Live on Maui and need some photos? Planning on taking a vacation to Maui? Don't live on Maui but have a wedding or other important (or not so important) event and you want to fly in a photographer?

ALOHA Friday Link Party #13

That's Ivy, holding Sticky Bumps (surf board wax), wearing a Roxy suit and Gap sunglasses (lil poser). My friend from work made the red dress and handkerchief for Ivy for her birthday. Ladybugs and Hearts. Aren't they cute?! I just wanted to share a few photos from life in Hawaii, since this is an Aloha Friday party!!

9 Red did a great color block stool. Here's the before and after. 

I mentioned to her that she should link this stool up a few weeks back, and I'm so glad she finally did! 

I also love this chair she did. She didn't link it up, but I just love it and wanted to share it!
